Citation Matching in Practice

Now that you understand how citation matching works, how to think about selecting a matching control, and how Accuracy ratings are determined it's time to discuss the mechanics of matching in the UCF Mapper.

Suggested Control Matches

In the Matching workflow, the Mapper automatically spawns a list of suggested control matches for each tagged mandate. These suggestions are presented by the highest match percentage in descending order. The list is automatically filtered by the top three Impact Zones correlating to the Subject Matter of the Authority Document.

Filtering by Impact Zone

If you don't agree with any of the top suggested controls, you can manually filter controls by Impact Zone in the Matching workflow.
To filter by Impact Zone follow these steps:

  1. Open the FILTER OPTIONS
  2. Check the boxes of the impact zones that you would like to explore
  3. repeat your search.

Additional Searching: Research Portal

If you still cannot find a Common Control match, then leverage the Research Portal to assist your search.
The UCF offers a variety of different tools to assist you in your search for the best possible match. Even though a control may appear to match a citation contextually through an Impact Zone the top suggested control will not always serve as the best match; in many instances none of the suggested controls will apply. In such cases it may be easier to navigate potential matches through the Research Portal.
