Customer Segments - Roles & Personas

Compliance teams in organizations typically have a range of roles, each with its responsibilities. Here's an outline of the typical roles we might find in a compliance team:

  1. Chief Compliance Officer (CCO): This senior executive role oversees the organization's compliance program. The CCO ensures the company complies with external regulatory requirements and internal policies.

  2. Compliance Managers: They assist the CCO in managing the day-to-day operations of the compliance program. Compliance managers often specialize in specific areas such as data protection, financial compliance, or industry-specific regulations.

  3. Compliance Analysts/Officers: These professionals monitor and audit organizational procedures to ensure compliance. They also help develop compliance policies and procedures and train employees on compliance-related issues.

  4. Legal Counsel: Often, a compliance team will include or work closely with legal counsel who provides advice on regulatory matters, helps interpret laws and regulations, and assists in developing policies.

  5. Risk Manager: This role focuses on identifying, analyzing, and mitigating risks that could lead to non-compliance. Risk managers work closely with compliance officers to ensure risks are adequately managed.

  6. Audit and Assurance Professionals: These individuals are responsible for conducting internal and external audits to ensure adherence to compliance standards. They report findings and suggest improvements.

  7. Data Protection Officer (DPO): Especially relevant in industries handling large amounts of sensitive data, the DPO is responsible for ensuring compliance with data protection laws like GDPR.

  8. Regulatory Affairs Specialists: They keep track of regulatory changes and trends and analyze how these could impact the organization. They also assist in preparing regulatory submissions.

  9. Training and Development Coordinators: Responsible for developing and delivering training programs to employees on compliance-related topics.

  10. IT Compliance Specialist: Focuses on ensuring that the organization's IT infrastructure and data handling practices comply with relevant laws and regulations.

Appendix: New to personas? Here’s why we do personas:

Personas are essential to help create differentiable software that will beat the competition. Personas allow us to design software with specific target users in mind taking into consideration their motivations, pains, and career goals. The personas in combination with jobs-to-be-done (JTBD) will help Unified Compliance focus in on what matters most to our target customers.

Defining personas will help:

  • Streamline the brainstorming process when development new products and features

  • Identify who we are building software for

  • Gain perspective that is similar to end-users

  • Constrain feature creep to what matters most

This is the updated template for Personas.
