Here are a few mapping rules that we follow when entering citations:

  • If possible, copy the Citation Guidance directly from the Authority Document.
  • Do not include lettering or numbering systems in Citation Guidance, they will be added to the Citation Reference
  • Enter unnumbered paragraphs as separate Citations
  • Enter Separate bullets and lists as separate Citations
  • If you must enter bullets in as a single Citation, remove bullets from bulleted text and replace them with simple dashes. Note: Although this guidance dictates how bulleted text has historically been entered, in line with current conventions we now enter bullets individually, call out each bullet in the Citation Reference, and add preceding lines and paragraphs to the Additional Guidance of the Citation Tagging task.

Because Authority Documents aren't written in a standard format, you will find that citation extraction and referencing will vary from one document to another.
Entering Citations: Citation Example
The example above contains a section header, which will be entered as informational text. Subsequent citations such as Disclosure 2-1 and its children will fall under the Section 1 header in the Citation Hierarchy.
